Antalis offers a range of rigid substrates   Antalis offers a wide range of fibre-based and plastic substrates in the rigid category. Traditional choices such as foam PVC, Correx and display boards are joined by a growing range of aluminium composite products under Antalis’ new Coala Printbond brand. Other specialist materials include Xanita, Stadur Easyprint, which is ideal for fabrication to 3-dimensional shapes.   “In 2019 Antalis launched an intuitive online tool, SUBSTR8, which allows printers and their end users to navigate Antalis’ range of rigid media by ‘application’ across eight different creative sectors, including retail instore/exteriors, office, automotive, exhibition and hospitality. With end users becoming increasingly conscious of making sure the large format substrates used in their projects align with their brand, and meet their environmental criteria, SUBSTR8 can help guide users through an array of substrate options – and can be a useful reference for collaborative talks between the printer and their client,” he says. Sustainability in rigid media As public support gathers behind the call to address climate change, businesses are increasingly looking at what more they can do to operate more sustainably. “Antalis is acutely aware of the growing demand for more sustainable alternatives to plastics. We are constantly working with suppliers towards the development of new and innovative products to meet this demand. Our range continues to grow with innovative fibre-based boards such as Xanita and Katz, as well as environmental plastics like Triaprint, Priplak polypropylene
and Lumex A PET which will be joined by further new products during 2020! Printers are increasingly questioning why they are using foam PVC boards for display and exhibition work and Antalis can help them to ‘present’ to end clients the very real and sustainable alternatives,” says Duffy. Xanita Print range is a recyclable engineered   fibre-board, manufactured with a corrugated   kraft core made from recycled cardboard boxes. As well as being environmentally friendly, Xanita is also lightweight and very strong, making it the ideal solution for a wide range of decorative and even structural applications, including POS, shop-fit and exhibition design. Katz Display Board is a 100% fibre-based board and an environmentally-friendly alternative to the use of PVC and PUR foam boards for retail and POS sectors. Developed to withstand store conditions,
including variations in temperature and humidity, its high quality, smooth white surface gives excellent print results on UV digital and flatbed latex. Triaprint has a smooth top and bottom surface, and is an excellent environmentally   friendly alternative to the use of foam PVC, foam board and other rigid plastics, as its construction is 100% polypropylene, in turn making it 100% recyclable. Carbon offsetting – one step further “Antalis UK has recently announced that all   material purchased from across its papers, packaging and visual communications ranges, including rigid substrates, can now be carbon offset,” says Duffy, adding, “We are able to calculate the kilograms of carbon emissions it takes to procure any rigid material type. These carbon credits can be purchased by customers to support the creation of new UK woodlands or to preserve global forests.” In conclusion, Paul Duffy says, “At Antalis we offer a free consultation service for anyone considering investing in large format equipment or looking for substrates advice or recommendations. We work with several different partners offering equipment from world leading brands, and can offer an impartial consultative approach   with solutions to meet the unique needs of a business as technology, applications and requirements change. We will work with clients to understand exactly what it is they’re trying to achieve and advise them on the best way to invest in the latest technology and substrates that will fulfil their needs and that of their end-clients.”
